The short version
- You own the stories you write and the films you make.
- On a paid plan you can post your films on YouTube and earn money from them.
- Plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel any time from your account.
- Don't use Drawn Films to hurt, deceive or impersonate anyone.
Who we are
Drawn Films (drawnfilms.com) turns written stories into animated films. In these terms, "we" and "us" means Drawn Films, and "you" means the person using it.
You can reach us at hello@drawnfilms.com, or by replying to any email we send you.
Your account
You sign in with Google or with a link we email you. There are no passwords to remember.
- You must be at least 16 years old to make an account.
- An account is for one person. Keep access to your email safe, because anyone who can read it can sign in.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using your account.
Plans and minutes
Every plan is counted in minutes of finished film. A 3-minute film uses 3 minutes.
- Free: one film, up to 1 minute, with a small watermark.
- Creator and Studio include a number of minutes each month, shown on the pricing section. Yearly plans get all 12 months' minutes at the start.
- Remaking a film uses only the length of the shots that changed.
- A film that fails to render never uses minutes.
- Unused minutes on a monthly plan carry over to the next month only. Anything still unused at the end of that next month expires.
- A yearly plan's minutes last for the year you paid for.
- Top-up minutes aren't refundable.
- You can buy top-up minutes whenever you run out.
- One plan can run as many YouTube channels as you like. They share your minutes.
Paying
Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Plans are paid in advance, monthly or yearly, and renew automatically until you cancel.
- Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT is added where the law requires it, and shown before you pay.
- Discount codes apply as described when you use them. The launch code COPYME gives 50% off your first month: on a monthly plan, 50% off the first month; on a yearly plan, 50% off one month's share of the year. It works on your first payment only, and never on top-ups.
- Launch prices are locked in: if prices go up, you keep the price you subscribed at for as long as your subscription continues.
- If we change a price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to you.
Cancelling
You can cancel any time from your account. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for, and then it won't renew. You keep every film you've made. Refunds are covered on the refunds page.
Changing plans
You can change plans any time from your account.
- Moving up (from Creator to Studio, or from a monthly plan to a yearly one) starts straight away, and your new month or year starts that day. You pay the new plan's price minus a credit for the minutes you haven't used on your current plan.
- The credit is what you paid for your current plan × your unused minutes ÷ that plan's minutes. For example, if you paid $399 for Creator yearly and 300 of its 360 minutes are unused, your credit is $332.50, so Studio yearly costs you $666.50.
- The new plan's minutes start fresh. Top-up minutes stay on your account. Minutes carried over from last month and top-up minutes don't count toward the credit, and the credit is never more than you paid.
- Moving down (from Studio to Creator, or from yearly to monthly) happens at the end of the period you've paid for. Until then, you keep your plan and your minutes.
Inviting friends
On Creator and Studio, your account has an invite link to share.
- When a friend buys their first plan through it, you get +10 minutes and they get +10 bonus minutes.
- If your friend uses a discount code such as COPYME, the discount applies instead of their bonus. You still get yours.
- You can be rewarded for up to 10 friends a month.
- Bonus minutes never expire. They're used after your plan's own minutes, like top-ups.
- A refund within 7 days takes both bonuses back. You can't invite yourself, and each friend can be invited once.
Who owns your films
Your stories and your films are yours. That includes the scripts you write, the films you make, and the characters you create.
To make and keep your films, you let us store, copy and process your stories and films. We only use them to run Drawn Films for you. We don't sell them, we don't show them to anyone else, and we don't use them to train our own models.
The animation engine, the ready-made characters and the rest of Drawn Films belong to us. You can use the ready-made characters freely inside the films you make, including films you earn money from on a paid plan. You can't sell the characters on their own or use them to build a competing product.
Posting on YouTube
On Creator and Studio, you can post your films anywhere, including YouTube, and earn money from them. Films made on the Free plan carry a watermark and are for trying Drawn Films out.
YouTube decides which channels it pays and which videos it recommends. We can't promise views, subscribers or income, and our trend research suggests ideas but can't guarantee results. Follow YouTube's own rules when you post.
What you can't make
Don't use Drawn Films to make anything that:
- is illegal, or encourages violence or self-harm;
- attacks people for who they are;
- sexualises anyone under 18, or is sexually explicit;
- shows a real person saying or doing things they didn't, or pretends to be someone you're not;
- is meant to deceive people, such as fake news presented as real;
- copies someone else's work you don't have the right to use.
Drawn Films may refuse to write a story that breaks these rules. If we find films that break them, we can remove them and suspend the account. Where we can, we'll tell you why first.
The AI parts
Your film is drawn by our animation engine, and so are its thumbnails. Neither uses AI images or AI video. Two steps do use AI services:
- Anthropic's Claude writes the shots and lines from your story.
- ElevenLabs speaks the voices and makes some sound effects.
AI can get things wrong, so watch your film and check the titles and thumbnails before you post them. You're responsible for what you publish.
The community
Paid plans include our Discord server. Its own rules, pinned in #start-here, apply there. If your plan ends, your access is paused until you subscribe again.
Changes to the service
Drawn Films is on version 1, and it will keep changing. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you pay for, we'll tell you first and make it right, for example with a refund for the time you can't use.
We work hard to keep Drawn Films running, but we can't promise it will never be down or slow.
Our responsibility
We provide Drawn Films as it is. As far as the law allows, we're not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost income from a video or a channel.
If we are responsible for a loss, our total responsibility is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it happened.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer, or limits responsibility that the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Ending your account
You can delete your account any time from your account page. That deletes your stories, films and characters, as described in our privacy policy.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close an account for any other reason, we'll refund the unused part of what you've paid.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you before the change applies. If you keep using Drawn Films after that, the new terms apply.
If you're a consumer, you keep the protections of the country you live in.
