Common fixes
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Your AI doesn't mention Drawn Films | Start a new session or chat. Then check Drawn Films is installed and turned on: +, Plugins, Manage plugins in Claude, or the Plugins tab in Codex. |
| "Failed to add marketplace" in Codex | Your computer may need git. If it offers to install it, say yes, then try again. |
| Drawn Films isn't in the plugin browser | Send the message from your install page again, then pick drawn-films in the filter. |
| "Command not found" when Claude adds the list | Ask Claude to try again with the full path to its own program. |
uv isn't found | Quit the app, open it again and start a new session. |
| Codex can't save your film | Codex can only save in the folder it started in. Start a new chat in the folder you want your film in. |
| Codex can't reach the internet | That's its sandbox. Approve the command when it asks to run outside it. |
| Codex can't find its tools after an update | An update brings a new plugin folder. Ask it to run the setup again, and approve it. |
| A picture doesn't open on your screen | Ask Where did you save that picture? and open it from there. |
| "No ElevenLabs key" | Check the file is called exactly .env, it's in your DrawnFilms folder, and the line starts ELEVENLABS_API_KEY=. |
| "ElevenLabs refused the key" | Copy the whole key again, with no spaces. Then check Text to Speech and Voices are on for the key. |
| Voices stop part-way | You've probably run out of ElevenLabs credits. Lines already made are kept. |
| The render stopped | Ask your AI to render again. It carries on from where it was. |
| You've hit your Claude or Codex limit | Your film is saved. Wait for the reset, then tell your AI to carry on. |
Updates
In Claude
Claude doesn't update Drawn Films by itself. When you want the newest version, send this:
Update the Drawn Films plugin to the newest version.
Then start a new session, because a session keeps the version it started with.
In Codex
Codex updates Drawn Films by itself when a session starts. An update brings a new plugin folder, so it may ask to run the setup again. Approve it.
Your films
An update never overwrites your films. Each film's folder is yours.
Moving to a new computer
- Copy your
DrawnFilmsfolder to your home folder on the new computer, so your hidden.envfile comes with it. Copy your film folders anywhere you like. - Open your install page and install Drawn Films again, as in Get started.
- Send the first run message, so your AI sets up the engine there.
Lines you've already voiced are in each film's voice/ folder, so they aren't made again.
A lost install page
Search your email for Your Drawn Films install page, and check your spam folder. If it isn't there, email hello@drawnfilms.com from the address you paid with.
Where your films live
Every film has its own folder, inside the folder your session or chat was open in when you started the film. It's all plain files on your computer. You can copy them and back them up.
render/is your finished film. This is the file you upload.script.mdis your script, andfilm.pyis the code that draws the film.people/,places/andobjects/hold what was built for this film.voice/,audio/andstills/hold its voices, its sounds and its test pictures.
The DrawnFilms folder in your home folder keeps only what every film shares: your hidden .env file, and anyone who's in many films.
You don't have to remember this. Just ask:
Open my film's folder.
